The purpose of the association shall be to foster, promote, provide, and advance the acuse of baseball and softball for the children of the northville school district, the city of northville, and northville township (hereinafter referred to as the northville community) in cooperation with the northville parks and recreation department.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

Northville baseball-softball association (nbsa), is an all volunteer organization dedicated to advancing the cause of baseball and softball to northville, michigan's young ball players. Annually, nbsa provides educational opportunities for 1400+ ball players. Program details - house league: nbsa has several house leagues available for boys and girls. Kids are grouped by age/grade into leagues which encourage skill development, education, healthy lifestyle, community building opportunities, team building and fun. Programs are available for all ages: co-ed rookie ball: (ages 4 - 5) a fun first baseball experience for prescholl ages; played with soft foam ball and soft bats. The ball is hit off the tee, and every child gets a chance to learn and practice batting. Emphasis is on hitting, ground ball fielding, throwing, running the bases, sportsmanship, and playing as a team. Co-ed t ball: (ages 5 - 7) a beginning baseball experience for k-first graders. Players will be given the choice of hitting the coach pitched ball or hitting balls off the tee. Basic baseball/softball concepts are introduced, including base running, outs and scoring, although score is not kept. Safety baseballs are used with 40 foot base paths. Teams are formed around school, neighborhood and/or friend groups. Coach (machine) pitch: (ages 7-8) the players learn to hit a safety ball pitched slowly by a small catapult-type machine. Strikes and outs are counted. 50 foot base paths are now introduced. An end of season tournament is usually included. Teams are formed around school, neighborhood and/or friend groups. H-league: (ages 9-10) the players learn to pitch and keep score. Standings and umpires are introduced. The first three innings use a pitching machines, while the final three are "kid pitched". 60 foot base paths are now introduced. G-league: (ages 11-12) the players learn regular baseball rules. Youths are introduced to hard baseballs, limited stealing rules and run and pitch limits. Teams are formed by draft, following an evaluation. There are 70 foot base paths. F-league: (ages 13-14) teams are formed by draft and play on larger fields. Teams also play against neighboring communities; continuing the nbsa mission of education and fostering amatuer sports competition. E-league: (ages 15-16) full baseball, playing teams from surrounding communities; continuing the nbsa mission of education and fostering amatuer sports competition. Travel teams: nbsa travel teams are chosen by nbsa approved coaches. Tryouts are held for each travel team. Coaches at each age level are encouraged to work together to provide the most efffective and beneficial placement of players, continuing the nbsa mission of education and foster amatuer sports competition. Coaches: all nbsa coaches are volunteers from the community, usually parents of the children currently in the program. It is our belief that adults partiicpating in our community provide our youth with excellent examples of leadership and reinforce the mission of nbsa. It is also important for nbsa to ensure the safety of our children. Therfore to be a coach, each applicant is approved each season by the nbsa board of directors. Strict criteria has been established for determining eligibility for volunteering for nbsa programs.
