Worcester Roots core staff and office operations provide support to our developing cooperatives and others in the cooperative and new economy movements, including workshops, including Coop Academy, outreach, research, and administration.$52,178$29,774
In 2020, Center for Economic Democracy provided funds for Roots to address several urban COVID-related food, health, and economic needs chosen in partnership with Mutual Aid Worcester, the Southeast Asia Coalition's food pantry, and youth-led 508BikeLife.$14,547$13,820
Worcester Youth Coop youth participants learn business development skills, social justice concepts and community organizing practices. In October, a former Roots director and several youth incorporated as https://worcesteryouthcoops.org/. WooRides cooperative has brought Worcester, Ma its first ever cycle rickshaw service. After incubation by Worcester Roots since 2017, WooRides Inc incorporated as an independent cooperative on August 2, 2018. Worcester Community Skateshop, a cooperatively managed group geared toward encouraging skateboarding in Worcester, held a skate camp at Beaver Brook Park, opened a shop at WooRides, and collaborates with public and private entities to replace a skate park.$800$1,575
Greenvitalize Urban Growers and Healing Garden Institute are committed to food justice, urban agriculture, education and entrepreneurship. We are training gardeners, and we used grants to equip a donated greenhouse. Expenses do not include amounts invoiced in prior years and paid in 2020.$1,400$260
Future Focus Media cooperative produces high quality video, photography and audio, while training youth in TV and film production with the goals of building youth's job skills and creating powerful stories. FFM is the principle founder of a new film festival, Central Mass Film Festival. FFM incorporated as an employee cooperative in April 2015 and setup its own account. Some related charitable projects (Frederick Douglass readings) continue to be processed through Roots bank account. Income and expenses for the new corporation processed through FFM's new account is not included in this report.$500$475
With South Worcester Neighborhood Center, the City of Worcester, and other partners, Nuestro Huerto developed Camp Street Community Garden at a City Park in 2015, operated through 2017. Nuestro Huerto was also a member community farm on Southgate St in Worcester through 2016 before we helped the owner transition the property to host three farmers from Nepal on the site to provide for themselves, their families and communities. In 2020 we transferred management of that farm to recworcester.org. Nuestro's director started a new member community farm in Leicester, not part of Nuestro/Roots.$206$150

FFM is the principle founder of a new film festival, Central Mass Film Festival. FFM incorporated as an employee cooperative in April 2015 and setup its own account. Some related charitable projects (Frederick Douglass readings) continue to be processed through Roots bank account. Income and expenses for the new corporation processed through FFM's new account is not included in this report.

Nuestro Huerto was also a member community farm on Southgate St in Worcester through 2016 before we helped the owner transition the property to host three farmers from Nepal on the site to provide for themselves, their families and communities. In 2020 we transferred management of that farm to recworcester.org. Nuestro's director started a new member community farm in Leicester, not part of Nuestro/Roots.
