Mission

Our Mission is to inspire young people for the future workforce by saving old and new technology. The Rhode Island Computer Museum RICM is a nonprofit 501c3 organization established in 1999 in Rhode Island to preserve our rich vintage computer history and offer a glimpse of the past. RICMs mission statement is procuring and preservingitems that relate to computer science and its history; disseminating knowledge and encouraging research in computer science by means of visits lectures discussions and publications. Inspiring young people for the future workforce by saving old and new technology.

Implementation of a summer Camp for students and new workshops. RICM held two (2) weeklong camp sessions in 2021. Students geeked out as we explored how to use computers, and how computers work for you. RICM develop f24 GREENPOWER kit car program at two high schools in Rhode Island. The Greenpower Electric Car Challenge is a hands-on STEM project that encourages students to explore aspects of design and teamwork. The project is to build and customize a formula 24 car kit as a real-world exploration of STEM careers. The kits can be disassembled and used again.$15,500$10,000
EDUCATION - DEVELOPED AND MANAGED RELATIONSHIPS WITH LIBRARIES AND SCHOOLS THROUGHOUT NEW ENGLAND TO PREPARE STUDENTS IN COMPUTER SCIENCE; DEVELOPED COMPREHENSIVE PROF. DEVELOPMENT AND PROVIDED VIRTUAL WORKSHOPS IN RI, MA and CT. RICM and BlocksCAD signed a partnership agreement. It will provide STEM education workshops for children ages 10-14. The goal of this component is to teach children the basics of computer-assisted design (CAD) with an easy-to-use blocks-based programming interface. RICM also signed a partnership agreement with Quincy. Due to the impact of COVID, the Internet is a lifeline for more people than ever. Many older adults who do not have strong technology skills will need assistance to perform necessary activities online. Our goal is to assist older adults who need help with technology issues.$8,000$13,846
Procured and preserved items that relate to computer science and its history; disseminating knowledge, research and, restoration. Restorations included analog computer, (2) Wang LOCI Calculators from 1965, PDP 9 Intel machine and others. RICM worked to recover America's Cup boat management software that was developed on an Intel MCS-800 system in the 1980s. We were able to make an image of two of the 8" diskettes using a DEC-PDP-8.$0$836
