Amos house operated ten houses which provide permanent, supportive housing for homeless men and women with special needs.

Activity 3

In 2012-2013 amos house operated two training programs: the amos culinary education program (ace) and the amos carpentry training program (act). Funds for ace came from the governor's workforce board and provided funding to train 45 men and women over 15 months. These students received certifications in the national servsafe certification in food safety and handling, cpr/first aid, customer gold certification, and t.i.p.s. (safe handling of alcohol). The students received practicum instruction in amos house businesses, the friendship cafe and more than a meal catering, as well as our soup kitchen and other area restaurants. The program was 16 weeks. The act program is a 15 week course of study with hands-on experience and classroom instruction in carpentry, basic plumbing and electric, and certifications in osha, hazwoper, and lead abatement. 33 students completed the program. Funds for the act program included wia, ors, and neg and private donations. Our literacy program provided basic education and nedp instruction. The nedp leads to a high school diploma. We served 45 students over the course of a year and in 2013, 35 students received their nedp. Our financial opportunity center provides a bundling of services including access to benefits, financial coaching, and job development/job placement. We served over 200 men and women in 2013. The participants included men and women in all of our training programs as well as our shelter and housing programs in addition to walk-ins. Funding for this program comes from lisc and requires a 100% match.
