Financial Statement Notes

PART III, LINE 4:

The society's collections include several historical houses in lexington, massachusetts and exhibits that include artifacts of historical significance, which are held for educational, research and curatorial purposes. Each of the items is cataloged, preserved and cared for, and activities verifying their existence and assessing their condition are performed continuously.

PART V, LINE 4:

Income from permanently restricted endowment funds is to be used for: maintenance and operation of munroe tavern, capital improvements to historical structures owned by the society, maintenance and furnishings of buckman tavern, and in the case of one permanently restricted fund, income may be used to support general operations of the organization.

PART X, LINE 2:

The society is exempt from income taxes as a charitable organization under section 501 (c) 3 of the internal revenue code and is not classified as a private foundation. The society accounts for uncertainty in income taxes in accordance with asc topic, income taxes. This standard clarifies the accounting for uncertainty in tax positions and prescribes a recognition threshold and measurement attribute for the financial statement regarding a tax position taken or expected to be taken on a tax return. The society has determined that there are no uncertain tax positions which qualify for either recognition or disclosure in the financial statements at the tax year end. The society's information returns are subject to examination by the federal and state jurisdictions and generally remain open for the most recent three years.
