Berkshire Childrens Chorus Inc

Berkshire Children's Chorus offers musical instruction to motivated students beyond what is provided in the local school setting. There are three choruses for students of different ages: Junior Choir, for second through fifth graders, Senior Choir, encompassing grades six through nine, and Coda, for students in grades ten through twelve. Choristers come from 18 different communities in the tri-state area and represent nine different educational settings including public, private and home-schooled students. The students must audition and are selected regardless of their ability to pay tuition. Rehearsals are held weekly to prepare for various performances throughout the year in the tri-state area and beyond and are designed to teach musicianship through a performance-based music education process, which aims to develop personal and artistic excellence, support the growth of positive values, and enrich our rural community at large.

Founded in 1990, Berkshire Children's Chorus explores the globe and travels through time by singing music from various cultures and eras, while also sparking new friendships between singers from across the region. BCC is committed to providing musical opportunities for all youth regardless of their family's ability to pay. Berkshire Children's Chorus is supported by grants from Local Cultural Councils and the Massachusetts Cultural Council, as well as donations from community members. BCC serves rural children in grades 3 to 8 in Berkshire County. Weekly rehearsals feature the development of individual self-confidence and teamwork skills, as well as music reading, ear training, and vocal technique. The Chorus uses music to spark new friendships between singers from across the Berkshire region, offering weekly rehearsals in Sheffield and Pittsfield. Families can choose which rehearsal location works best for them. The two ensembles come together for special events and performances.
