Mission and Program Overview

Mission

The uss constitution museum engages all ages in the story of "old ironsides" to spark excitement about maritime heritage, naval service, and the american experience.

Through interactive exhibits, innovative education programs and dynamic hands-on activities, the museum ensures that the stories of uss constitution and those who served on board will never be forgotten and will inspire others. The war of 1812 bicentennial commemoration (2012-2015) shines a national spotlight on "old ironsides" as the nation's premier naval monument from the age of sail.

Unrealized loss on trust residuary -4,000.

Form 990, Part XII, Line 2C

Financial Statement Notes

PART III, LINE 1A:

The museum maintains a collection of historic artifacts for public exhibition and education in furtherance of public service and not for financial gain. The museum expenses items obtained for its collections. In the rare event of a sale of deaccessioned artifacts, the proceeds are used exclusively to acquire other artifacts for the collection.

PART III, LINE 4:

The museum collects, preserves, displays and interprets items related to the sailing frigate uss constitution, the oldest commissioned warship afloat in the world. The museum has almost 10,000 artifacts and archival materials in its collection. Many are on display in the galleries and help tell the stories of uss constitution and the men and women who served (and still serve) on board her.

PART V, LINE 4:

The permanent and quasi endowments provide income for the museum from interest and dividends for its educational mission and operations. The purpose of the temporarily restricted endowment is to provide funding, when appropriate, to renovate the building and provide sails, rigging and other ship related improvements for uss constitution.
