“Power lunch - since 1995, power lunch has helped build literacy skills and foster a healthy mentoring relationship between adults and children in grades k-3, with the goal of pairing each student with his or her mentor(s) for consecutive years. Volunteers encourage children to develop an interest in reading, expose students to new ideas and experiences, help students articulate their thoughts through conversation, and build students' self- esteem and confidence. In 2017-2018, power lunch reached 98 grade k-3 students, matching them with 157 volunteers. Students received an estimated 2,017 hours of extra literacy support with their mentors. Expenses totaled 117,877 and program revenue was 11,007. Motivate - motivate is designed for early childhood development needs, serving children in grades prek-2. Motivate mentors work with the whole class of students, helping to run academic activities and smooth transition time. In classrooms with high student to teacher ratios, full of young children with diverse needs, having a motivate mentor in the classroom helps teachers better differentiate instruction. In 2017-2018, motivate matched 862 grade prek-2 students in 20 bps schools with 44 volunteer academic mentors. On year-end surveys, 84% of teachers rated motivate "excellent- or "good" at improving students' academic achievement, and 84% said the same about improving students' self-confidence. Expenses totaled 98,876 andn program revenue was 10,071.”
