Financial Statement Notes

PART V, LINE 4:

The center's endowment consists of individual funds established for a variety of reasons. In accordance with donor restrictions, the center can annually withdraw earned income from the brigham fund totaling no more than 5% of the total value of the principal plus earned income, for capital maintenance and repair. In accordance with donor restrictions, the center must maintain the elizabeth hardie fund principal in perpetuity, but may use the income for general purposes. The go girl endowment spending policy will allow for a withdrawal of 5% of the fair value of the fund and is to be used to support the girls incorporated of the berkshires program. The center's investment policy states that its primary objectives are to achieve maximum rates of return commensurate with the preservation of principal, given the asset mix, credit quality, and specific diversification guidelines and restrictions.

PART X, LINE 2:

Management has evaluated significant tax positions against the criteria established by professional standards and believes there are no such tax positions requiring accounting recognition.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR PRESCHOOL AND PRE-KINDERGARTEN HAS TWO CLASSROOMS: ONE FOR PRESCHOOL AND ONE FOR PRE-KINDERGARTEN. WE WORK CLOSELY WITH PARENTS/GUARDIANS - THE CHILD'S FIRST EDUCATORS - TO RAISE HAPPY, HEALTHY KIDS. THIS CARING ENVIRONMENT PROVIDES A SAFE, COMFORTABLE AND NURTURING PLACE FOR CHILDREN TO GROW AND LEARN INDEPENDENCE WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF DEVELOPMENTALLY APPROPRIATE CURRICULUM. PROGRAM SERVED 44 CHILDREN WITH 7,238 FULL DAY SERVICE UNITS THIS YEAR AND IS LICENSED BY THE MASSACHUSETTS EEC.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0THE ABC SCHOOL AGE ENRICHMENT AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM SERVES GIRLS AND BOYS, AGES 5 THROUGH 14, PROVIDING A COMPREHENSIVE, SAFE AND SUPERVISED PROGRAM WHILE PARENTS/GUARDIANS ARE WORKING OR GOING TO SCHOOL THEMSELVES. EACH CHILD IS ENCOURAGED AND MOTIVATED TO LEARN FROM THE PROGRAM'S SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT. NATIONAL STUDIES HAVE SHOWN THAT CHILDREN INVOLVED IN AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS ARE LESS LIKELY TO ENGAGE IN RISKY BEHAVIORS. AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS PROMOTE SAFETY BY REDUCING YOUTH VIOLENCE, OFFERING A SAFE ENVIRONMENT, AND EDUCATING YOUTH ABOUT THE DANGERS OF DRUG AND ALCOHOL ABUSE. THIS PROGRAM IS GIVEN ONSITE AT THE BRIGHAM CENTER AND OFFSITE AT THE LANESBORO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. THE MASSACHUSETTS DEPARTMENT OF EARLY EDUCATION CARE (EEC) LICENSES THE PROGRAM. THE PROGRAM SERVED 173 CHILDREN WITH 25,906 FULL DAY SERVICE UNITS THIS YEAR.
