Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Old colony ymca helps children, families, and individuals develop to their fullest potential. We respond to ever-changing community needs a view our services through three lenses: youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. We believe ymca services must be available and accessible to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay or partake. Many of our participants face complex barriers to success and involvement, such as mental health and substance abuse issues, experiences of homelessness and trauma, and chronic disease and health concerns. Donations help us meet the needs of everyone who comes to our door, and provide financial assistance for memberships, camp, mentoring, education, and childcare. In fy21, we provided $6.9 million in financial support, indirect subsidies, and direct aid to our community.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Membership healthy living: we have provided health and wellness programs for 125 years, and served 121,299 people during fy-2011. Over 73% of these individuals are under the age of 17. We have more than 34,098 members association-wide. On an annual basis, our members visited our facilities more than 1,058,135 times! The old colony y believes all people should have access to programs that build strong spirits, minds, and bodies, so program fees are kept affordable and scholarships are provided to those who qualify. We provide a formal reduced fee structure based upon household income membership for all which helps ensure accessibility for everyone.old colony ymca is comprised of eleven branches. In addition to specialty branches, (community-based child care, family services, and social services), we provide a myriad of healthy living services a lifelong progression of medically-based health and fitness activities, experiences and education through eight other locations: brockton central, brockton youth, easton, east bridgewater, middleboro, plymouth, stoughton, and taunton. Our branches and programs serve children, teens, families, and seniors of all backgrounds, faiths, incomes, and abilities. Instructors demonstrate the ymca core character values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Programs encouraging physical activity and providing guidance regarding healthy diets have been started in all of our branches. These programs are particularly directed at adolescent girls, who tend to experience a decrease in exercise and, hence, an increase in weight gain.we joined other ys across the nation to strategically address community-based barriers to healthy living back in 2005. Our strategic plan commits us to assuming a greater leadership role in the communities we serve regarding health issues, particularly the critical issue of obesity in both the adult and youth populations. As part of our commitment to healthy living, we offer programs that encourage physical activity, offer guidance regarding healthy eating habits, and promote life-style changes that support health and wellness. Our corporate wellness program is available to local companies who encourage employees to stay fit. Free health screenings are provided at our branches through our partnerships with local health care organizations.
