Mission

Cardinal cushing centers, a not-for-profit organization founded in 1947, provides individuals with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorders, from school age through adult and elder years, educational, employment and employment training, social relationships, recreation, and enhanced independent living opportunities in caring and engaging settings. Together with typical individuals, all experience better lives together than they would alone. Families, as well as individuals through our communities, share in the journey, gaining strength and insight as a vital part of the mix.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0ADULT COMMUNITY RESIDENCES - PROVIDES HOME SUPPORTS TO INDIVIDUALS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES OVER THE AGE OF TWENTY-TWO. CURRENTLY, THE PROGRAM HAS ELEVEN HOMES LOCATED IN THE COMMUNITY THAT WERE COOPERATIVELY CHOSEN WITH INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES WE SUPPORT. THE INDIVIDUALS RESIDING IN THESE HOMES RECEIVE TWENTY-FOUR HOUR SUPPORT SERVICES BY EXCEPTIONALLY QUALIFIED AND EXPERIENCED STAFF. AT HOME, WE PROVIDE TRAINING CENTERED ON FUNCTIONAL SKILLS SUCH AS PLANNING AND PREPARING NUTRITIOUS MEALS, ASSUMING RESPONSIBILITIES FOR DAILY CHORES, TAKING PRIDE IN PERSONAL APPEARANCE, AND PRACTICING SELF-PRESERVATION SKILLS. WE SUPPORTED 54 ADULT INDIVIDUALS IN THIS PROGRAM DURING THE YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2015.

THERE HAS BEEN CAREFUL CONSIDERATION IN BUILDING A HIGHLY MOTIVATED TEAM AND DEVELOPING CURRICULUM THAT WILL BEST MEET THE NEEDS OF INDIVIDUALS REFERRED. WE OFFER A MEANINGFUL AND PRODUCTIVE DAY FOR ALL THE INDIVIDUALS THAT ATTEND. OUR DEDICATED TEAM INCLUDES A REGISTERED NURSE, PHYSICAL THERAPIST, OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST, SPEECH THERAPIST, AND BEHAVIORAL THERAPIST. AN EMPHASIS ON A HEALTHY LIFE STYLE, COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND CHOICE IS WHAT WE ARE ABOUT. THE PROGRAM SERVED APPROXIMATELY 90 INDIVIDUALS DURING THE YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2015.

WE ARE COMMITTED TO THE EXPLORATION, DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF EMPLOYMENT PLANS THAT REFLECT EACH INDIVIDUAL'S PREFERENCES, SKILLS AND NEEDS. MANY ARE SUCCESSFULLY EMPLOYED BY LOCAL BUSINESSES AND NEED VARYING LEVELS OF SUPPORT FROM THE EXPERIENCED JOB COACHES PROVIDED THROUGH SOUTH SHORE INDUSTRIES. FOR OTHERS, SOUTH SHORE INDUSTRIES MAY BE THEIR INITIAL STEP INTO A WORK ENVIRONMENT. THESE INDIVIDUALS ARE OFFERED OPPORTUNITIES TO EXPLORE A VARIETY OF EMPLOYMENT SETTINGS, WHICH INCLUDE VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS, AND/OR PARTICIPATION AS A MEMBER OF A COMMUNITY-BASED WORK CREW. WE SUPPORTED APPROXIMATELY 53 ADULTS IN THIS PROGRAM DURING THE YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2015.

THE GOAL OF THE PROGRAM IS TO DELAY OR PREVENT OUT OF HOME PLACEMENTS FOR INDIVIDUALS WHO CANNOT LIVE SAFELY ON THEIR OWN. THE PROGRAM SERVED APPROXIMATELY 51 INDIVIDUALS DURING THE YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2015.
