Financial Statement Notes

PART III, LINE 4:

The museum follows a practice of not capitalizing its collections. The collections carry a significant value in connection with the museum's mission of enriching, educating and entertaining patrons and are included as an asset on the statement of financial position valued at a $1. They are not considered assets in the monetary sense. The collections consist of accessioned collections of art, natural science, antiquities, objects of cultural heritage, and living collections. The museum's catalogued collection consists of 3,921 art objects, including 2241 decorative arts objects (ceramics and glass), 570 paintings, 346 photographic prints, 166 sculptures, and 596 works on paper, as well as 9,522 cultural heritage objects, including 4,068 american objects, 666 antiquities objects, 866 asian objects, 3468 indigenous cultural items, 198 european objects, and 256 books. In addition, the collection includes more than 30,000 natural science specimens, including entomology, geology, malacology, botanical specimens, fossils, taxidermy mounts, and living collections of fish and reptiles. Inventory estimates from the 1990s indicate that this is representative of less than half of the total collections of the berkshire museum, many of which remain to be catalogued. Interdisciplinary changing exhibitions are either produced in house by staff or rented by the museum. Recent exhibits have included: festival of trees 2023, 120th anniversary: cabinet of curiosities, 1903-1939; 120th anniversary: building the museum, 1939-1978; insight out; childhood classics: 100 years of children's book illustration from the art kandy collection; storyland: a trip through childhood favorites; ty allen jackson: writer extraordinaire; romance & nature: the art of the hudson river school; and one-of-a-kind wonders.

PART X, LINE 2:

Management has evaluated significant tax positions against the criteria established by professional standards and believes there are no such tax positions requiring accounting recognition.
