“In accordance with u.s. Gaap, the society does not capitalize donated works of art or recognize them as revenues or gains. Such donations need not be recognized if they are added to collections that are held for public exhibition, education, or research in furtherance of public service rather than financial gain; are protected, kept unencumbered, cared for, and preserved; and are subject to a policy that requires the proceeds from sales of collection items to be used to acquire other items for collections.”

“The society has adopted investment and spending policies for endowment assets that attempt to provide a predictable stream of funding to programs supported by its endowment while seeking to maintain the purchasing power of the endowment assets over the long-term. Endowment assets include those assets of donor-restricted funds that the society must hold in perpetuity. Under this policy, as approved by the executive committee, the endowment assets are invested in a manner that is intended to contribute to the society's total return objectives and preserve principal while maintaining a competitive yield as market conditions dictate. The society's policy of appropriating for distributions of its endowment fund for scholarships, fellowships and other distribution of funds is determined based on the donor's intentions and investment returns as well as taking into consideration the long-term expected return on its endowment, the nature and duration of the individual endowment funds, and the possible effects of inflation.”

“In determining the recognition of uncertain tax positions, the society applies a more-likely-than-not recognition threshold and determines the measurement of uncertain tax positions considering the amounts and probabilities of the outcomes that could be realized upon ultimate settlement with taxing authorities. As of december 31, 2024, the society has no uncertain tax positions that qualify for either recognition or disclosure in the financial statements. The society is not currently under examination by any taxing jurisdiction. The society's federal and state tax returns are generally open for examination for three years following the date filed.”
