FORM 990; PART XII, LINE 1

Accounting method: the association maintains its books and records on the modified cash basis which is a basis of accounting other than accounting principles generally accepted in the united states of america (gaap). As a modification of the cash basis of accounting, the association capitalizes its holdings in property and equipment and depreciates these assets over their estimated useful life, records its investments at fair value, records purchases and other costs and sponsorship revenues on the accrual basis, other than those costs associated with remittance of membership dues to the massachusetts and national organizations which are recorded on the cash basis.

FORM 990; PART XII, LINE 2C

The association has a committee that assumes responsibility for oversight of the audit of the financial statements and selection of an independent accountant. This process has not changed during the year.

Financial Statement Notes

PART IV, LINE 2B:

The association acts as an agent on behalf of the 50 plus committee (the committee) by performing administrative functions, including custody of the committee's operating cash account and performance of the cash receipts and cash disbursements function. Funds held for the committee are segregated from the general assets of the association.

PART X, LINE 2:

The association is a nonprofit organization as described in section 501(c)(6) of the internal revenue code and is exempt from federal and state income taxes on trade or business profits generated by activities related to the association's exempt function. The association may be subject to federal and state income taxes for profits generated from trade or business activities unrelated to the association's exempt function. For the year ended december 31, 2016, management believes that the association has not generated any unrelated business taxable income. The association assesses the recording of uncertain tax positions by evaluating the minimum recognition threshold and measurement requirements a tax position must meet before being recognized as a benefit in the financial statements. The association's policy is to recognize interest and penalties accrued on any uncertain tax positions as a component of income tax expense, if any, in its statement of support, revenues and expenses - modified cash basis. The association has not recognized any liabilities for uncertain tax positions or unrecognized benefits as of december 31, 2016. The association does not expect any material change in uncertain tax benefits within the next twelve months
