“The mission of the friends of coronado historic site is to support the conservation and restoration of historical assets and museum exhibits, and to promote through community outreach, the historical and cultural significance of the coronado and jemez historic sites - including the ancestral pueblos of kuaua and giusewa, the coronado expedition, and the mission of san jose de los jemez.”

“Selected 2024 accomplishments: volunteerism: donated more than 5,800 volunteer hours in 2024, valued at more than 159,300. Fundraising: raised over 138,800 (before expenses) from gift shops, member dues, and donations. Financial support: invested over 66,200 to support ongoing programs and special events at both historic sites. Evenets/programs: funded and provided volunteers for astronomy ights, pubelo independence day, lights og gisewa, fiesta of cultures, environmental education, crafts workshops, horno baking, traditional storytelling, the dedication ceremony for the diane schuler educational pavillion and a performance of traditional new mexico music by the group lone pinon. Academic awards: awarded 3,000 to phd candidate peter kovacik for radiocarbon dating of sample materials for his study of land use practices in colonial new mexico. Branding/website: hired a marketing expert who created a cohesive appearance for all our print, online, and other communications; ensured that our messaging is onsistent; and overhauled our website to include an online registration to automate volunteer sign-ups and vendor registration/payment. Administration: several critical administrative tasks were completed this yer. These included bringing our by-laws up to date and concluding a new general operating agreement with the state of new mexico (allows the friends to operate onsite).”
