| ALL CLASS PROJECTSWe offer various projects and partnerships which are open to all four of the TAPS classes. We organized a summer swim program called "Jump-In" with a focus on water safety and introductory swim lessons for the children of Love-A-Child Mission. We also supported "Night to Shine,"an unforgettable prom night experience for teens with special needs put on through the local churches where thousands of people with special needs are celebrated, given the royal treatment and reminded of love for them! Our volunteers helped with hair/makeup, karaoke, photo booths and other activities, but especially escorting the guests to make sure they get to experience all aspects of a Prom! We also provided volunteers to help run events for Save Mount Diablo, MADD, Elks Lodge, Ruth Bancroft Gardens, Special Olympics, and the Cities of Walnut Creek and Pleasant Hill. We made and donated hygiene kits for refugees and foster teens. We made and mailed Halloween, Shabbat Shalom, Valentine's Day, Spring/Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas cards to the elderly communities. We prepared food for distribution at food banks, helped provide care for therapy horses, provided respite days/babysitting for foster families, and made and donated blankets to Children's Hospital. But most of all, our teens learned the value of service. | - | $3,414 |
| SENIOR CLASS PROJECTSThe senior class participated in a coordinated respite day event for Contra Costa Foster Friends (CCFF). This included making games, collecting supplies for all the stations, and coorinating who would run each station and monitor the children. The seniors also put on a donation drive for CCFF and gathered many needed items like toiletries, diapers, socks, underwear, etc. On the day of the event, the teens played games, provided face painting, temporary tattoos, and lunch, and cared for the kids for four hours. The senior class also participated in many all-TAPS projects for different charities, including Loved Twice, Love Is The Answer, Contra Costa Food Bank, Night to Shine, Zenerosity, and Ruth Bancroft Garden. | - | $1,983 |
| JUNIOR CLASS PROJECTSThe junior class organized, planned and volunteered at Love A Child Mission, a transitional housing facility for moms and their kids in our community. TAPS hosted "Fall Fest there, an event with carnival-style games and activities for the kids and an opportunity for the moms to select several things for themselves from an assortment of donated new personal care items and accessories. The junior class also baked homemade treats for the Fall Fest cake walk, and brought lunch to serve, including salads and side dishes made by the teens. They also made greeting cards as a group, such as for Valentine's Day and Thanksgiving for distribution to individuals in care facilities or receiving services from Meals on Wheels of Contra Costa County. The junior class also adopted two families (up from one last year) through Hope Solutions. The teens organized into teams and shopped for the items within budget and guidelines from Hope Solutions, then wrapped and labeled all gifts as a larger group. They also participated in many all-TAPS service opportunities such as with our local Food Bank, Walnut Creek Community Service Day, Ruth Bancroft Garden, Night to Shine and Loved Twice. | - | $696 |
| SOPHOMORE CLASS PROJECTSThe sophomore class organized various projects throughout this past year. In February, we made spring origami for Meals on Wheels, to include in their meal deliveries and cafes. In March, we purchased donations and assembled spring baskets for Hope Solutions. We also organized and coordinated April's Angels at Love-A-Child women's shelter. This was a big class event and every class member attended and participated in some way. There were games, lunch, and a Mother's Day Boutique for kids to find something for thier mothers and make a card. It was really rewarding. In September, we created College Care Packs for the TAPS Class of 2024. In October, we made Halloween cards for Love is the Answer (LITA). In November, we brought donations for Contra Costa Foster Friends and created hygiene and self-care kits for teenage foster children. In December, at the All-Taps Holiday Meeting, we created snowman crafts for Meals on Wheels to include with their meal deliveries for seniors. | - | $420 |
| FRESHMAN CLASS PROJECTSThe freshman class focused our efforts on helping children, mothers and the elderly in our community. In the beginning of the year we had a very successful childrens' book drive to support and complete the Sweet Dreams event with Hope Solutions, an organization that provides emergency support to homeless individuals in our community. Teens assembled hygiene care packages for the community homeless. Teens brainstormed new activities that would support community youth in stress-reducing activities that also teach patience, resource conservation and appreciation of nature. In cooperation with The Surfrider Foundation, the teens participated in an Earth Day Beach Clean Up. Teens also made blankets for pediatric patients at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital in Oakland, in support of the Trevor Eagle Blanket Foundation, in memory of a Walnut Creek high school student and longtime patient of the hospital. Finally, the freshman class also participated in TAPS-wide service projects and in sophomore, junior, and senior class-sponsored projects so that their older TAPS sisters would be assured of success as they worked for the community. | - | $241 |
