- Activity 2
- The darfur peace process was a key focus for dpdo in 2010. Through advocacy, guidance, and recommendations on rebel unification and engagement of the civil society, dpdo staff contributed at the highest levels to facilitate ownership of the peace process. In 2010, dpdo successfully promoted better environments for negotiation, incorporating all darfuri stakeholders to create an inclusive and sustainable peace. Working with the office of the u.s. Special envoy for sudan, dpdo continued rebel unification and civil society engagement through meetings in addis ababa, tripoli, and chad, where rebel factions formed a technical committee to host a unification conference in darfur. Those efforts became the cornerstone for a gathering in doha, qatar in march 2010. The majority of expenses for the peace process work in 2010 went to travel, logistical, and communications expenses. Dpdo had to coordinate meetings and travel plans for workshop participants, make international trips to meet with participants and darfuri civil society representatives.

- Dpdo high school program-in 2009 dpdo began construction on a high school in el fasher, north darfur. The high school will fill a void in secondary education facilities in north darfur-many graduating eighth graders have had no opportunity to move on to high school simply because of a lack of high school facilities. Dpdo's gangy high school will feature several classrooms and teacher offices, a cafeteria, a library, and darfur's only high school computer lab. It will enroll 460 students its first year, many of whom were orphaned or displaced in the darfur conflict. In 2010 dpdo received a donation of $150,000 for the high school program from 'ante up for africa', an organization dedicated to raising funds for africans in need. Additional revenue came from individual donors and school groups. The majority of expenses for the high school in 2010 went to construction costs and the cost of installing a water well system at the school site. Dpdo plans to complete construction on the high school facility in 2011, and will open for students.
