IRS990/Desc0Abalone Restoration Project - We developed a new technique for spawning green abalone and we were successful in spawning 2.5 million larvae. The abalone are growing on our farm facility and are currently 2mm in legnth. We also have 5,000 additional green abalone that are 2 years old from a previous cohort. We conducted 9 abalone field surveys with 26 volunteers in 2020, adding to our data set on the size and distribution of abalone in Orange County. We are also working on assessing the status of the kelp forests and determine the density of Saragassum horneri. Kelp is important for abalone diets. We also introduced a new program with kids 8-12 years old to involve them and their families in scouting for abalone in the tidepools. The kids report data to us for our research program.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0Pismo Clam Restoration Program- We started this new restoration program restore the historic Pismo Clam. We began with 2 studies to tag and track Pismo Clams and to also assess the Newport Beach, CA populations for size, location, and growth. We are currently working on developing methods for assessment of the subtidal populations. We trained 13 new volunteers for this work. We have partnered with a Concordia University to develop a lab research program.
