The finance office staff and executive director review the draft of the audit and make changes, if needed. The complete audit is reviewed and approved by the board of directors. Copies of the audit are sent to all who provide grant funds and are available for any requests.

Volunteers are an essential part of humility of mary shelter inc, providing crucial support services that are vital to the shelter and the well being of our participants. Every day, willing volunteers donate their time and energy so that hmsi can fulfill its mission of providing temporary housing and services to the homeless. Whether they are sorting donations, doing laundry, cleaning, answering the telephone, providing computer classes, doing yard work, providing life skill classes, painting or filing, humility of mary shelter volunteers know that their work makes a difference.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

Income taxes - the organizations are exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code and comparable state law and contributions to it are tax deductible within limitations prescribed by the code. The organizations have been classified as publicly supported organizations that are not private foundations under section 509(a) of the code. In accordance with the income taxes topic of the financial accounting standards board ("fasb") accounting standards codifications ("asc"), management evaluated the organizations' tax positions and concluded that the organizations had maintained their tax-exempt status and had taken no uncertain tax positions that require adjustments to the combined financial statements. Therefore, no provision or liability for incomes taxes has been included in the combined financial statements. The organizations are subject to routing audits by taxing jurisdictions; however, there are currently no audits for any tax periods in progress.

VETERANS TRANSITIONAL PROGRAMTHE VETERANS TRANSITIONAL PROGRAM PROVIDES 17 BEDS AND SERVICE COORDINATION TO HOMELESS VETERANS, WITH THE GOAL OF HELPING THOSE VETERANS ACHIEVE RESIDENTIAL STABILITY, INCREASE THEIR SKILL LEVELS AND/OR INCOME, AND OBTAIN GREATER SELF-DETERMINATION. THIS PROGRAM OFFERS SUPPORTIVE HOUSING FOR UP TO 24 MONTHS AND WORKS IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE LOCAL VA SERVICE CENTER TO OFFER QUALIFYING VETERANS SERVICES SUCH AS CASE MANAGEMENT, EDUCATION, JOB TRAINING, CRISIS INTERVENTION, AND COUNSELING. PERMANENT HOUSING PROGRAMOUR PERMANENT HOUSING PROGRAM ASSISTS HOMELESS PERSONS EXPERIENCING CHALLENGES WITH SEVERE AND PERSISTENT MENTAL ILLNESS, PERSONS IN RECOVERY FROM DRUG AND/OR ALCOHOL DEPENDENCE, AND PERSONS WITH CHRONIC ILLNESS OR PHYSICAL DISABILITIES. THESE INDIVIDUALS RECEIVE LONG TERM SUPPORT TO HELP THEM MOVE TOWARD WELLNESS AND TO FURTHER THEIR SELF-SUFFICIENCY BY IDENTIFYING AND WORKING TOWARD SHORT-TERM OBJECTIVES AND LONG-TERM GOALS. SERVICE COORDINATORS ASSIST OUR PARTICIPANTS TO IDENTIFY RESOURCES THAT WILL HELP THEM TO WORK THROUGH PROBLEMS AND SITUATIONS THAT HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THEIR HOMELESSNESS.
