Financial Statement Notes

Part X, Line 2:

Income Taxes - The Organizations are exempt from Federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and comparable state law and contributions to it are tax deductible within limitations prescribed by the Code. The Organizations have been classified as publicly supported Organizations that are not private foundations under Section 509(a) of the Code. In accordance with the Income Taxes Topic of the Financial Accounting Standards Board ("FASB") Accounting Standards Codifications ("ASC"), management evaluated the Organizations' tax positions and concluded that the Organizations had maintained their tax-exempt status and had taken no uncertain tax positions that require adjustments to the combined financial statements. Therefore, no provision or liability for incomes taxes has been included in the combined financial statements. The Organizations are subject to routing audits by taxing jurisdictions; however, there are currently no audits for any tax periods in progress.

IRS990/Desc0Services Include: Emergency Shelter for adult men and women with 82 beds. (37 for men, 28 for women and 17 for veterans)The shelter is open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.Day Shelter is open from 7am - 6pm, which provides both guests and community members with a safe place to come in from the cold or heat. Shelter Service Coordination Program Our Shelter Service Coordination program serves homeless adults staying at the Humility of Mary Shelter. Our service coordinators meet with shelter participants and offer them the opportunity to enroll in this program, in which participants set and work toward goals for obtaining permanent housing, increasing their skills or income, and increasing their self-determination, or their ability to have more control over their own lives. Service coordinators help the participants to assess their own needs, and connect them to resources that will help to meet those needs. Transitional Housing (TH) Program The Transitional Housing Program assists homeless persons who have a disability, and may need more time to find housing than the typical shelter stay allows, by providing a three-month period of housing and extra supportive services. THe participants work with a service coordinator to set goals and work towards an independent living situation. Bi-weekly program meetings, support groups, and mental health counseling are also a part of the program. Veterans Transitional ProgramThe Veterans Transitional Program provides 17 beds and service coordination to homeless veterans, with the goal of helping those veterans achieve residential stability, increase their skill levels and/or income, and obtain greater self-determination. This program offers supportive housing for up to 24 months and works in conjunction with the local VA service center to offer qualifying veterans services such as case management, education, job training, crisis intervention, and counseling. Permanent Housing ProgramOur Permanent Housing Program assists homeless persons experiencing challenges with severe and persistent mental illness, persons in recovery from drug and/or alcohol dependence, and persons with chronic illness or physical disabilities. These individuals receive long term support to help them move toward wellness and to further their self-sufficiency by identifying and working toward short-term objectives and long-term goals. Service coordinators assist our participants to identify resources that will help them to work through problems and situations that have contributed to their homelessness. The Permanent Housing Program provides a safe and supportive environment for program residents to pursue their dreams. Housing First ProgramOur Housing First Program is the only program of its kind in the Quad Cities. Housing First breaks the cycle of homelessness by placing some of the most vulnerable and at-risk chronically homeless individuals into permanent housing. Individuals are then provided with service coordination, counseling, and other resources which help them remain in stable housing.Veterans Accessing Long-Term Opportunities & Resources Program (VALOR)The VALOR program serves very low-income Veterans (singles or families) from Scott or Rock Island Counties who are homeless or at imminent risk of becoming so. An Intake Coordinator and two Service Coordinators assist program participants to rapidly return to permanent housing, or to maintain their current housing, while helping them address the issues that led to their housing crisis. The VALOR program is a natural extension of our successful Veterans Transitional Housing program.

IRS990ScheduleD/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0Income Taxes - The Organizations are exempt from Federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and comparable state law and contributions to it are tax deductible within limitations prescribed by the Code.
