Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Surgical Access Program Haiti Addresses the barriers to accessing surgical care at nearby Hospital Albert Schweitzer which does have a program that can provide free services.and offers free care. Mountain residents have been historically under served due to geographic isolation limited transportation low literacy unfamiliarity with institutional healthcare systems and difficulty navigating hospital intake and social assistance processes. To address these barriers LFH supported program activities implemented by OPPARH a locally based partner organization. In 2025 OPPARH employed ten local staff to identify potential surgical candidates in mountain communities assist with enrollment accompany patients and help beneficiaries navigate hospital intake social service eligibility and follow-up care at Hospital Albert Schweitzer. During the fiscal year 1,272 individuals received surgical consultation and 309 ultimately received surgical procedures free of charge.$0$50,000
Nutrition Support Program 10000 US LFH also supported direct nutritional assistance for individuals and families in mountain communities who are in extreme poverty or have physical limitations. OPPARH administrators distributed food packages consisting primarily of staple items such as rice beans cooking oil and spices several times last year. Our 10000 dollar designation served 110 individuals during fiscal year.$0$10,000
Support for OPPARH Administrators 9,400 US None of our programs could function at all without 2 administrators who run the day to day operations for all OPPARH-LFH projects.$0$9,400
School Support: LFH granted 6000 to help meet salary needs for elementary school teachers in Damier.$6,000$6,000
LFH provided funds to help pay for phone internet transportation OPPARH machine maintenance fuel etc.$4,000$4,000
Support for Aslylum Seekers from Damier: During the reporting year LFH accepted designated donations to support three individuals from Damier who are currently in legal proceedings in the United States seeking asylum. Funds were and continue to be used used to assist with payment of legal fees while the individuals await renewed work permits. LFH did not provide direct cash assistance to the individuals but applied funds in accordance with donor intent to support legal representation. Some of the funds remain for future fees. Many Haitian mountain people continue to survive through the efforts of their grown children who live and work in the US and other countries. The funds that these young people send to support their parents and families in Haiti are a vital part of the economy not only in Damier but also throughout Haiti.$3,500$3,500
Micro Credit Program: The organizations primary long-term program is a micro-loan initiative operated in partnership with OPPARH. The program provides loans ranging from the equivalent of $30 to $300 USD at an 8% interest rate with a ten-month repayment period and participants who successfully repay are eligible for larger loans in subsequent years. Loan proceeds support small income-generating activities such as agriculture livestock raising charcoal production and small-scale trade. Contributions over the years have expanded the loan fund to over 10 million Haitian gourdes value $90,000 to $200,000 depending on exchange rate serving more than 850 individuals. Last year we did not increase the loan fund because this program is temporarily suspended due to the violent political and economic unrest in Haiti. Last years funds went to pay for loan collectors and record keepers etc.$2,600$2,600
Reserve fund for OPPARH programs in case of over-runs or emergencies.$1,500$1,500
Evangelistic Outreach: We also support evangelistic meetings during the year. This may involve renting sound equipment advertising guest speakers power generation etc. There are usually 2 or more events per year. The events are usually attended by hundreds of people.$995$995

Part III, General

| Explanation:| Mission:To provide economic, educational medical and spiritual support for the mountain dwelling Haitians that live in and around Damier Haiti. We do this by providing designated funds to an independent nonprofit organization in Haiti OPPARH Organizasyon des Peysans Pour le Progrs et lAvancement Reel de Hati which implements the programs locally in accordance with the organizations designations. LFH does not have signatory authority over OPPARH bank accounts or manage day-to-day operations; however it retains discretion over grant purposes and exercises oversight through written program directives periodic reporting and review of financial documentation to ensure funds are used exclusively for charitable purposes. Representatives of LFH always conducted on site visits each summer to ensure that funds were being used properly. The Covid 19 epidemic and subsequent political unrest has prohibited this.
