Governance Explanations

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 11B

Each board member receives a copy of the draft version of the return for their review, any potential questions are answered by auditor or management, potential changes submitted, and after board review and acknowledgement, the 990 is submitted.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 12C

The fbcf monitors and enforces compliance with the conflict of interest policy by requiring that all board members and committee members sign and adhere to the policy annually. When conflicts arise, the policies and procedures are followed to ensure that potential conflicts are reviewed by unbiased members of the board or committee. Board or committee members with potential conflicts do not participate.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 15A

The process for determining compensation for the executive director of fbcf is determined after a complete survey and approval of the board of directors. When merit increases are set, the fbcf board considers relevant data to ensure comparability data and contemeraneous substantiation of the deliberation or decision.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 15B

The foundation similarly performed a compensation review on all staff in fy 2024-25.

Additional Explanations

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

The florida breast cancer foundation awards scientific research grants to institutions in the state of florida who submit proposals on innovative research projects that have the potential to make a significant impact on breast cancer. The grants must be in one of 5 areas of research: basic, clinical and translational breast cancer research; understanding the links between environmental factors and breast cancer in florida; novel epidemiological studies for improving detection and treatment in florida; psycho-immunologic mechanisms and breast cancer progression; and innovative awards and idea grants. The foundation received 24 proposals and funded 4 proposals, totaling 399,755.independent reviewers who were from statesother than florida and who had no conflict of interest with any of the researchers or institutions that submitted proposals reviewed proposals in their interest of research.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4B

The fbcf direct services program invited applications from any florida based 501(c)(3) organization providing direct service support to breast cancer patients. The 3 available areas of funding inclue: organizations to provide living expenses to individuals in active treatment for breast cancer, depending on quality of applications received and budget availability; organizations to provide medical items to breast cancer patients and survivors and organizations providing tomosynthesis(3d) diagnostic mammograms to assist residents of the state of florida in need of tomosynthesis (3d) diagnostic mammograms and/or screening mri services. The foundation received a total of 52 proposals and funded 28 proposals, totaling 402,766, with the expectation that 2,200 individuals would be helped by these grants.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4C

The florida breast cancer foundation awards education grants statewide. The education grants are awarded in support of innovative projects in four priority areas: educate women and men in the areas where they need to become proactive advocates for their own breast health through one-on-one, small group or virtual education workshops; provide education to breast cancer survivors, their families and advocates on life after or with breast cancer, including the "transition phase" from active treatment to survivorship; provide education on breast health to young women and men with a focus on middle school, high school and college ages; and create and provide a method of education on late-stage breast cancer diagnosis that will help reduce the percentage of these diagnoses in the areas that exceed the state of florida average. The foundation received 25 proposals, funded 13 proposals, totaling 140,731, with the expectation that 20,340 individuals would be helped by these grants.

Financial Statement Notes
