Form 990, Part III, Line 4D: Other Program Services Description

OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: Special Outreach & Enrichment ProgramsThe Healing Arts program was born from researching the powerful impact the arts have on the neuroplasticity of the brain. Starting Arts, in partnership with Kaiser Permanente, provides pediatric patients with 10 weeks of each arts discipline: music, theatre & visual arts. Children receive lessons in small groups or bedside. We hope to expand the Healing Arts to other hospitals as well as the Pediatric Out-Patient Clinic at Kaiser in Santa Clara.Mindful Music Moments is a powerful, daily listening experience for students. This online music program is designed to be played over the loudspeaker at the start of the school day or right after lunch for five minutes. It is also accessible for classroom teachers to use in their classrooms with a computer. Mindful Music Moments programs have proven effective for reducing anxiety in elementary students, for creating a calm and focused start to the school day and for developing a students positive relationship with classical music.Corporate Partnerships are a new addition to Starting Arts program offerings. We partner with local companies who are interested in giving back to their communities. Currently we are working with LinkedIn to provide an Innovation & Entrepreneurship program to Title 1 schools in Santa Clara and Sunnyvale School Districts. These programs are provided free of charge and give students the opportunity to think outside the box.

IRS990/MissionDesc0Starting Arts was founded in 2000 with the mission to make arts education accessible to all students in San Francisco Bay Area schools. We believe that in order to stimulate and educate students to reach their fullest potential the creative arts are a necessary component of the education process. Our passion is to provide hands-on arts education in four arts disciplines - Dance, Theater, Music and Visual Arts - in classes taught by skilled professional artists. Classes are California State Standards-based and align with Common Core Standards. Starting Arts is currently providing arts education to over 125 schools and serving over 45,000 students with a special focus on Title 1 schools.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0School ProgramsDuring School Arts Programs are designed to support and enhance general education goals and incorporate the California Visual and Performing Arts Standards. The Rotating Arts Wheel is our most comprehensive program. The schedule, session duration, and chosen disciplines can be tailored to fit any schools population and budget. We also provide complementary programs to enhance any existing arts enrichment the schools may have onsite. Some of our supplemental programs include:Students Oriented Assembly Programs (S.O.A.P): These 50-minute performances by professional artists are one way of improving cultural literacy for students. Each assembly is an interactive experience for the students who will have the opportunity to be part of the ensemble or chorus. Each performance ends with a Q & A. Sets, costumes, props and scripts are provided.Arts Day: These all-day themed events are designed to immerse students in all four arts disciplines - often integrated with other California Content Standard curricula in science, social studies or language arts (i.e., mythology or the Gold Rush). Before and After-School Arts Programs offer classes in all four disciplines: dance, visual arts, music and theatre. Classes meet either once or twice a week for 10- 12 weeks, culminating with a concert/exhibition.Professional Staff Development provides school staff with ready-to-teach integrated lesson plans in dance, theatre, music and visual arts for grades K-5. All materials adhere to the State and National Visual and Performing Arts Standards.
