Activity 2

The Child & Family Services division operates Head Start and Early Head Start programs throughout northern Kennebec and all of Somerset counties. High-quality childcare services are also provided to families with children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old, and offers comprehensive Head Start and childcare services. During the year, 556 children (ages 0 to 5) and their families were provided over 517,000 hours of Early/Head Start preschool and child care services. The program completed 556 child development screenings, served 71,568 nutritious meals and snacks, partnered with parents on 2,753 home visits, had 326 children receive dental exams and/or lead screenings, provided support to 56 families related to domestic violence and/or child abuse and neglect, provided transportation assistance to 56 families in order to access services, and provided information and support to 74 families to receive assistance with housing.

Activity 3

The Energy & Housing Services division provides home weatherization and other energy-saving services in four different counties. The division also provides home energy and telephone assistance services, operates home repair loan programs and coordinates the distribution of food commodities through a network of 38 food pantries and soup kitchens in Kennebec and Somerset Counties. Comprehensive homebuyer education courses, individual pre- and post-purchase counseling services, foreclosure prevention counseling, credit counseling and developing homeownership opportunities through new construction and purchase/rehab activities are other services provided.This year, 11,830 applications were processed for the Low Income Heat and Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). In addition, 242 clients were served through Weatherization Assistance Programs and another 118 homeowners received rehabiliation work through the home repair program.
