Mission

The chamber is an independent, member-supported organization, which exists to promote a positive business environment that contributes to the community and economic vitality of the androscoggin county region.

The lewiston auburn metropolitan chamber of commerce is an organization of community-minded businesses that serves the greater lewiston auburn metropolitan area and beyond. An engine for economic vitality and enhanced quality of life, we challenge business and community to build, lead, and thrive.through networking events, professional development opportunities, educational scholarships, and practical resources, we help professionals advance and businesses of all sizes grow. Our membership, representing more than 1200 area businesses, is the largest of its kind in maine. The strength in our numbers allows the la metro chamber to provide a collective voice, advocating for issues, influencing ideas, and facilitating conversations in support of business, commerce, and community.

Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 7A

No later than the regular july board meeting, the chairman shall appoint a nominating committee of at least six members of the chamber. The chairman shall designate the committee chairman. Prior to september 1, the nominating committee shall present to the president a slate of candidates to serve two-year terms, to replace the directors whose terms are expiring. Each candidate must be a member in good standing and must have agreed to accept the responsibility of directorship. Upon receipt of the report of the nominating committee, the president shall notify the membership by mail the names of persons nominated as candidates for directors and the right of petition. Additional names of candidates for directors can be nominated by petition bearing the genuine signatures of at least 30 members in good standing of the chamber. Such petition must be filed with the nominating committee within ten days after notice has been given of those nominated. The determination of the nominating committee as to the legality of the petition(s) shall be final. If no petition is filed within the designated period, the nominations shall be closed and the nominated slate of directors shall be declared elected by the board of directors at their regular september meeting. If a valid petition is filed an election procedure by the entire membership is prescribed.

The executive committee of the board, annually in the budget process, reviews the compensation of the ceo and makes a recommendation to the board as a whole as part of the budget process. The board takes action on the compensation after reviewing the recommendation of the executive committee.
